I’ve only ever created v3d files that run from a web browser. Is there a way to run a v3d file as an overlay on a desktop app. If v3d was running as a desktop app would that be the answer or is it not possible? The desktop app is a Neural DSP file which I’m controlling via a midi foot controller and does not require mouse navigation. If I create a v3d file as a desktop app with an transparent background would that address my needs. The v3d file is displaying a led indicator showing the user what knob they are controlling via the midi foot controller. Here’s the link to the virtual online demo product. The overlay can be seen by clicking the Remote Foot Switch which displays the green indicator LED. Unless you’re familiar with the Neural plugins it could be somewhat confusing but there are help docs. To summarize I’ve already created the midi control file which has no v3d components but the virtual demo file uses some indicators which would be nice to include.
Once again the simple question is will a desktop v3d file run on top of a desktop app as an overlay????

The answer as always…is… it depends. You obviously spent a large amount of time developing the v3D app….so is this just for your own personal solution or are you trying to create a software product for release? Anything that is just for you…you can try anything..its furthers your knowledge regardless of whether it the best approach. However if this is for a product you will sell, then a you would take a different approach.

With that said…If you have programmed and have source access to this desktop app then you can use integrate V3D into it without too much of a hassle. If its an application you do no have access to the application source you will find that trying to run V3D in transparent mode on top of another window/application to be extremely problematic.

You can also integrate the midi controller into the V3D so that the inputs of the midi control control the V3D application. All the controls of an amp, knobs buttons, etc. can be made to control the virtual amp…and i provide input from the V3D app to the midi device for some input controls (knobs excluded as there is no mechanical mechanism to rotate the knows on an amp that I am aware of.)

However the simple approach would be to embed the v3D in the desktop app.
