I’m using the 3.6 pre 3 for Maya because it has support for radial ramp
in this scene I have opacity maps applied to:
    1. the ground: to decrease the poly count, using 1 faced plane and a circular ramp to make it look circular (Lambert)
    2. the piece of cloth: for the teared parts (aiStandardSurface)
    3. the cards popping from the bottom (Lambert)

whenever 2 objects overlap in the line of vision, the opacity of the first object in line is applied to the rear objects… I don’t think should look this way, am I doing something wrong? is there any work around?

You need to set higher Render Order for the objects that are above. For example for all icons you set it to 1 for the chair with the cloth you leave it as 0. You can find render order in Verge3D section of object settings panel.
