How to create an animation of water surface in 3dsmax for use in verge3d?

You can use vertex animation with animated normal map texture. Look at this tutorial, it’s for Blender but you can use the similar method but using 3ds max.

I have already implemented it using Blender, but because the version I purchased is for3dsmax, I need to implement this animation in 3dsmax. The completed animation in Blender was converted into deformation animation through MDD. However, after importing it into 3dsmax, everything is normal, but due to the missing target object in the deformation modifier, it cannot be implemented in verge3d.

In the video you sent, he still uses the MDD plugin for conversion. I don’t know how to do it in 3dsmax. As I mentioned earlier, I created the animation using Blender, converted it using MDD, and imported it into 3dsmax. However, due to the missing target object, there is no animation in verge3d. How can I solve this problem?

    Hi there….

I solved this issue by using an animated noise texture in 3D Max…..its
not 3d but i think it works well….

see this sample on my page

Thanks, like you, I’m currently using a similar method, but my camera is too close and the result doesn’t look satisfactory. So I want to try to realize it with similar deformation animation, which can be done in blender, and I think it should also be possible in 3dsmax.

    Hi again….

if it doesn´t work you might still try it with different morphstates…..
using puzzles to control these morph states works well…
