    Hi Verge3D Team and community,

With 8th Wall shutting down — but planning to open-source key parts of their WebAR engine — I’m wondering if Verge3D might be able to take advantage of some of this technology, especially their markerless SLAM and reliable iOS-friendly tracking.

If even part of this could be integrated, it feels like a major opportunity for Verge3D to strengthen its AR features right at a moment when the WebAR space needs a strong, capable platform. Verge3D already stands out in the web-3D world, so this could unlock some really exciting possibilities for creators and developers who lost 8th Wall.

Curious to hear what the team thinks — and what the community’s thoughts are on this potential direction!

    Hi,

Of course, we’ll be monitoring the situation. When they open-source their AR code we’ll surely take a look.

I guess this is the major drawback of any cloud-based solution. Once they stop being profitable they just put down the hosting and ditch the users.

Sharing this here in case it’s useful, and hoping to get an update on Verge3D’s take as well in near future.
What parts of 8th Wall will be open sourced?

Why is the engine released as a binary instead of open source?
