– Will Verge / three.js / WebGL at some point be able to support defferred Decals like they can be created using DecalMachine?

https://threejs.org/examples/webgl_decals.html

My shader for pre-modeled deferred decals finally works! Same trick used in Star Citizen: you get crisp detail even on enormous surfaces, without any unwrapping work, normal baking, density inconsistencies and per-object normal maps!

Texture atlasing and deffered decals would be an immense help keeping dl sizes down.

– Is geometry instancing supported or will you be able to take advantage of it?

Hi wsl and welcome to Verge3D forums!

Not sure about deferred decals in the near future as the original Three.js doesn’t seem to offer any examples of this. Verge3D is too young to have such advanced features

On the other hand, geometry instancing is already available: example

The instancing example is very powerful. I see, so you can only support what three.js supports or you would have to fork it? Makes sense.

DecalMachine uses Cycles nodes for they shader. so if you can convert then into simple Internal Render materials you can use it. All materials in DecalMachine based on Principlied node, so in the future when we’ll support it you be able to use in in Verge3D.
