I noticed that I can easily download the a GLTF and bin files directly with the link to the html file by just changing the extension. Is there a way to prevent users from stealing 3d models uploaded online?

I was thinking of using verge 3D to showcase client models in 3d online but if user can easily download the 3d model, my client will not be happy about it.

Is there anyway to prevent user from accessing the 3d files easily?

I can always use a very low poly version of product but this will limit what verge 3d can be used for.

Webgl and by extension V3D are based on web standard services. Everything that runs on the web is exposed locally to the browser. The GLTF file is no further protected than that of a standard JPG. For many of our clients we do our best to obfuscate code and split and deform models that can be reassembled or reformed via puzzles or code.

In the end even with these measures the user could reassemble the models if desired.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. That is a useful solution to split the model and form it back by code.

Yup at the end of the day a determined person can probably extract the 3d models somehow. We can only make it difficult and time consuming to do.

    Thanks!

Puzzles and JS. Fast and expensive.

If you don’t see the meaning in something it primarily means that you just don’t see it but not the absence of meaning at all.
