No need to worry! In Chrome versions before 137, devices with faulty or missing GPUs relied on a slow software renderer. This is now outdated, and such devices will encounter a WebGL initialization error. You can test this using the –disable-webg flag (see Chrome Flags). The error screen can be customized in the App Manager settings.

Basically, before 137 (actually 138) these systems provided very slow and almost unusable WebGL experience. Now the user will see a fancy WebGL error screen which the developer can customize to their liking.

I believe there is no laptops without some kind of GPU out there (internal or external). Systems that might fail:

    • Virtual machines. In many cases they have faulty or incomplete GPU drivers (e.g. Virtual Box).
    • Ancient hardware, e.g. very old Intel graphics.
