    Hi Verge,

I have noticed original Blender exporter plugin has option to disable export of vertex normals which leads to significant file size reduction (93KB vs 25KB in case of simple Monkey scene).

We are using materials with normal maps on all our models. If my assumption is correct, we do not need vertex normals because normals are assigned from materials.

Is there any possibility to disable export of vertex normals in Verge GLTF export (.BIN) = reduce size of BIN files = speed up model downloads?

    Thank you very much,

    Petr from Precismo

    Hi Petr,

Unfortunately, we cannot sacrifice the normals as the are still needed for normal mapping (along with tangents and binormals).

There are methods to compute the normals on the fly – but they may lead to performance and quality degradation, and you also cannot have custom (edited) normals. See a relevant discussion here.
